Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) George Afriyie has shot down the notion that Ghana doesn’t have a lot of talented players compared to past years as suggested by Black Stars head coach Otto Addo recently.

George Afriyie said this in an exclusive interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News after Ghana failed to qualify to the 2025 AFCON.

The Black Stars finished bottom in Group F standings after failing to win a game in six outings; Angola and Sudan finished first and second respectively to progress to the tournament in Morocco next year.

After losing 2-1 and drawing 1-1 with Niger and losing 2-0 to Sudan and drawing goalless with the Kwasi Appiah led team in the qualifiers, George Afriyie believes that Ghana has talented players who can get the job done.

“Nobody and I repeat nobody can convince me that Ghana we don’t have the talent to match the Abochis of Niger, to match Sudan, a war torn Sudan, to match the Angolans. We are talking about a Ghana team that is made up of players in the Spanish La Liga. We are talking about four five (Ghana) players in the English Premier League.”

Former GFA Vice President George Afriyie

“It has to take a teacher to guide you to succeed so if you don’t bring in a coach who has the face to be able to put the boys together to give you the results, you cannot be blaming the boys because they go back to their clubs and they perform.”
