Club Licensing Committee Chairman calls for change after tragic loss of Nana Pooley

Club Licensing committee Chairman, Kwame Baah Nuako, has called on the Ghanaian football community to ensure that the tragic loss of a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter is not in vain.

The passionate supporter lost his life while following his beloved club, a sacrifice that Baah Nuako believes should serve as a wake-up call for stakeholders in Ghanaian football. He stressed that fans should never have to pay the ultimate price for their love of the game.

Speaking on the sidelines during the funeral of the late Asante Kotoko fan, Baah Nuako expressed deep sorrow over the fan’s passing, emphasizing that such tragedies should never occur in Ghanaian football again.

“For him to lose his life following Kotoko and doing what he loves, I think this should be the last time such a thing happens in our game,” he stated.

Reflecting on the significance of the loss, he added,

“It feels like we’ve sacrificed him, but if his passing becomes a rallying cry for the football family to realize that it is senseless to lose people in such a manner, then his life would have been worth living, and his death would have meant something for the game.”

Farewell of Nana Pooley, a staunch Kotoko fan

While acknowledging the grief of the deceased’s family, Baah Nuako expressed hope that the late supporter finds peace, knowing he played his role in the sport he cherished.

“For the football family, the lesson is clear: we cannot lose another Pooley. We didn’t learn from May 9, but we shouldn’t allow this to go unremembered,” he concluded.

His comments serve as a poignant reminder of the need for better safety measures and responsibility within Ghanaian football to prevent such losses in the future.
