I’ve not witnessed any ‘mafia’ tactics at Sports Ministry – Kofi Adams

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that he has not encountered any of the alleged dubious tactics often linked to the Sports Ministry since taking office.

The Ministry has historically been viewed by some as a hub for covert schemes, with reports of individuals undermining ministers and key stakeholders in the sports sector.

However, Adams maintains that his tenure has been free of such issues.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Adams noted that, despite warnings to remain vigilant, he has observed no sabotage or misconduct directed at him.

“I have heard that, but I haven’t seen it since coming here. It’s been normal business for me. We all have our style. And the reaction is sometimes based on the action.

“Maybe my action is not generating that type of reaction that has been seen in the past, but it’s given me results.  I wouldn’t say it’s mafia, but I heard they say it’s mafia. Everybody warns you to be careful, they are this, they are that. I haven’t truly seen what they have been telling me – that they can set you up with money and what have you,” he noted.

Adams further explained that his role as Minister does not involve direct handling of funds, making it difficult for anyone to implicate him in financial misconduct.

“As a minister, your duty is not to handle money; you are not the lead spender of the funds, and you are not a signatory to the account,” he emphasised.
