President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has announced that Ghana will host the first-ever Africa Open Classified event for para sports; a major milestone for the country’s Paralympic movement.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Head of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, following Ghana’s impressive performance at the 2025 World Para Athletics (WPA) Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco, Deen said the event will bring significant prestige to Ghana.

We will organize the first open para sport festival, and that will be a huge moment for the Paralympic stage in Ghana
Unlike previous competitions, this event will be free and open; meaning it will not require athletes to undergo costly classification processes.

Classification is the reason many federations in Ghana struggle to sustain para sports.
They simply don’t have the funding, and that financial burden is the cancer eating away at our sports
The Africa Open Classified event is expected to boost participation, attract international attention, and inspire greater investment in para sports across the continent.
