Leicester City have confirmed the departure of head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, nine weeks after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The Dutchman managed just five wins in 27 matches, with the Foxes finishing 18th ; 13 points from safety. His exit, described as a “mutual agreement,” follows weeks of uncertainty and criticism from fans and former players.

Van Nistelrooy took over from Steve Cooper mid-season, but a promising start quickly faded. Leicester became the first team in English top-flight history to lose nine straight home games without scoring.

The club is now bracing for a second Championship campaign in three years  and potentially a points deduction due to alleged financial breaches.

Former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche is among the names linked to the job, with coaching staff expected to oversee preseason until a new manager is appointed.

Leicester open their 2025/26 season against Sheffield Wednesday on August 10.
