Ghana’s Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports Deputy Ranking Member, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, has congratulated the Black Queens for qualifying to the semifinals of the ongoing 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON in Morocco.
Michael Aidoo singled out Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan for her splendid performance in Ghana’s 4-2 win over Algeria in the quarterfinals via a penalty shootout.
Konlan saved two penalties as Ghana triumphed in the tense game that ended goalless after regulation time and extra time.
Writing on his Facebook page, Michael Aidoo, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom Constituency, continued to call for more support for Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team stating,

“Congratulations to the Black Queens for qualifying to the semifinals at the WAFCON. It was a tensed moment but special congratulations to Cynthia Konlan for her brave goalkeeping. It’s been a while we saw Ghana win in penalties. Let’s promote and support our women as they carry the flag of Ghana high.”

Prior to the game against Algeria, Konlan had been widely criticized for her shaky performances in previous games particularly in Ghana’s 2-0 loss to South Africa in the opening game.

Ghana will play in the semifinals for the first time since 2016; the Black Queens take on host nation Morocco on Tuesday, July 22 at 19:00 GMT.
