South Africa Women’s National Football Team head coach, Desiree Ellis, says Ghana were the better team when the two nations faced off for the second time in the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON in Morocco.

The Bayana Bayana, 2022 AFCON champions, beat Ghana 2-0 in the opening game in the tournament for either team but Ghana got its revenge by beating South Africa 4-3 on penalties to clinch the bronze medal after the game ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Speaking in a post-game presser, Desiree Ellis commended the Black Queens for outperforming her side in the second half.

“They came out counter pressing in the second half and most of the second half, especially in the first 15 minutes, we couldn’t get our foot on the ball to slow the game down, to take control and a few crosses came in very close and they were just better than us in the second half…so congratulations to Ghana” Ellis said.
