The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has removed $5000 (58,000 Ghana Cedis) from the budget of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars that was designated to fuel the team’s bus.

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, made this known while briefing the press on the budget for the Black Stars. In recent years, the budget of the team has come under heavy scrutiny over the enormous amount of money allocated for the team’s operations.

At the presser, the Sports Minister stated that the budget briefing is line with President John Mahama’s directive to ensure transparency in national team expenditure.

The biggest take away from the financial breakdown was reviewing the million dollar per game budget for the Black Stars to a combined sum of $1.3 million for Ghana’s games against Chad and Mali on September 4 and 8.

$841,290 has been allocated for Ghana’s game against Chad while a sum of $436, 600 has been allocated for Ghana’s game against Mali in Accra.

Another eye catching review was the Sports Ministry wiping out the sum of $5,000 from the budget put together by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that was allocated to fuel the Black Stars bus.
