Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has taken aim again at the playing surface at the Stade Olympique Idris Deby Itno by stating that the dry state of the pitch played a role in Ghana’s poor performance against Chad in N’Djamena.

He said this in a post-game presser after Ghana played out a frustrating 1-1 draw with the home side Chad to miss out on extending its lead atop Group I standings.

Ghana took the lead in the 17th minute through Jordan Ayew with Mohammed Kudus providing the assist but a breakdown in midfield allowed Celestine Ecua to slalom his way through the Black Stars before firing a speculative shot that took a deflection before entering the net.

“It’s very difficult to play on this terrain when it’s not watered. We can’t play fast so it’s a disadvantage for us when the pitch is not wet.”

“The pitch was very slow for us so it’s difficult to outplay the defenders but Chad did well in defending” Otto Addo said.

Ghana take on Mali next on Monday, September at home. Prior to the game against Chad, Otto Addo blasted the astro turf at the stadium stating that playing on it felt like playing on concrete.
