Nigeria’s Nathaniel Ezekiel is still upbeat about his chances of winning a medal after finishing fourth at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Ezekiel finished fourth in the Men’s 400 Metre Hurdles event in a time of 47.11 seconds narrowly missing out on a place on the podium.
America’s Rai Benjamin added this year’s gold medal to the gold medal he won at the 2024 Olympics in Paris after running a time of 46.52 seconds.
Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos and Abderrahman Samba of Qatar finished in second and third place respectively to beat Ezekiel to a medal but the 22 year old Nigerian sounded positive after the race.
“I didn’t get a medal but at the same time, it’s still a great year for me, that means I still have a lot of potential to actually compete with these guys so it’s pretty amazing to come out here to compete.”

“I’m Nigerian so there is nothing that actually surprises me anymore…coming out here doing my best, running a new PR [Personal Record] that’s something big for me” Ezekiel said to NBC.

Ezekiel’s time of 47.11 seconds also set a new Nigerian Record.
