US Government reserves right to determine “safe cities” to host 2026 World Cup Matches- FIFA

In a move that is sure to please United States of America President Donald Trump, football’s world governing body, FIFA, has acknowledged that the US government reserves the right to determine “safe cities” to host 2026 FIFA World Cup games.

FIFA made this known via an official statement released in the wake of Trump’s spat with the Mayor of Boston over safety concerns in the city.

President Trump threatened to take World Cup games from Boston after a group of people clashed with police that led to a police vehicle getting torched.

Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, responded to Donald Trump’s threat by stating that the city is ready to welcome fans from around the world to the city. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

In light of the development, FIFA has stated in a release that the US government has the right to determine the safety of host cities for next year’s World Cup.

“Safety and security are the top priorities at all FIFA events worldwide. Safety and security are obviously the governments’ responsibility and they decide what is in the best interest for public safety.”

“We hope every one of our 16 host cities will be ready to successfully host and fulfil all necessary requirements” a FIFA spokesperson said according to ESPN.
