United States of America football legend Landon Donovan wishes the American National Men’s Football Team gets drawn in the same group as Ghana.
The two countries have an interesting rivalry at the World Cup having played each other three times with Ghana edging the rivalry with wins in the 2006 and 2010 edition respectively.
He made this comment while discussing permutations connected to the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup that takes place on Friday, December 5.
Donovan, working as a pundit on Fox Sports, shared that he wanted to have the Black Stars in the same group with the United States because he was still hurt by Ghana’s win over the Americans in the Round of 16 stage at the 2010 World Cup.

Donovan scored in the 2-1 loss to Ghana in 2010 with the winning goal coming via an Asamoah Gyan strike in extra time; the goal qualified Ghana to the quarterfinals.

Fellow American football legend Alexi Lalas supported Donovan’s sentiment by stating that, “This is not a great Ghana team but it’s still Ghana and we have plenty of history when it comes to playing against Ghana.”

“I want Ghana for my personal… vindication” Donovan said as he deliberated the possible opponents for the United States at the group stage in next year’s competition.
