Wolverhampton Wanderers finally tasted Premier League victory at the 20th attempt after brushing aside fellow strugglers West Ham United with a dominant 3-0 win at Molineux.

It was a landmark afternoon for Rob Edwards, who claimed his first league win as Wolves head coach, and ended the club’s long drought stretching back to a 1-0 victory over Leicester City on April 26, 2025. The result instantly doubled Wolves’ points tally to six, offering a lifeline to the league’s bottom side.

Facing one of the division’s most fragile defences, Wolves wasted no time asserting control. Just four minutes in, Hwang Hee-chan burst into the box, skipped past Konstantinos Mavropanos and squared for Jhon Arias to tap home from close range for his first goal in a Wolves shirt.

The early breakthrough lifted the home crowd and Wolves pressed relentlessly. Their pressure paid off again when teenage midfielder Mateus Mane was caught by a high boot from Soungoutou Magassa, earning the hosts a penalty. Hwang calmly sent Alphonse Areola the wrong way to make it 2-0 in the 31st minute.

Ten minutes later, Wolves turned dominance into humiliation. Given far too much space outside the box, 18-year-old Mane unleashed a fierce low strike that flew in at the near post, sealing his first senior goal in emphatic fashion.

West Ham showed more composure after the break, but the contest was already beyond them. The Hammers failed to register a meaningful response and slumped to a ninth straight match without a win.

The defeat leaves West Ham rooted in 18th place on 14 points, four adrift of safety, while Wolves will hope this long-awaited victory marks the turning point in their season.
