Aston Villa continued their impressive Premier League campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Villa Park, turning sustained pressure into goals to secure all three points.

Unai Emery’s side controlled the contest from the opening whistle, monopolising possession and pinning Forest deep in their own half. Despite a series of early missed chances and repeated penalty appeals waved away, Villa’s dominance was finally rewarded just before the break.

Ollie Watkins broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box, capping a relentless spell of pressure and sending the hosts into the interval deservedly ahead.

Villa struck again moments after the restart. Forest failed to clear their lines, allowing captain John McGinn to pounce and fire home a sharp one-touch finish to double the lead in the 49th minute.

Forest briefly threatened a comeback when Morgan Gibbs-White finished a slick counter-attack in the 62nd minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and injecting some tension into the contest.

However, any hopes of a turnaround were extinguished by a costly error from Forest goalkeeper John Victor. Straying well off his line, he gifted McGinn the opportunity to score his second of the afternoon in the 73rd minute, the Villa skipper calmly punishing the mistake to restore the two-goal cushion.

McGinn’s brace earned him the Player of the Match award as Villa saw out the closing stages comfortably, creating further chances and underlining their control.

The win keeps Emery’s side firmly on track in what has been a strong season, while Nottingham Forest remain in search of vital points as their struggles continue.
