Board Chairman of Medeama Sporting Club, Dr Tony Aubynn, believes head coach Ibrahim Tanko has the quality and experience to guide the club to another Ghana Premier League title.
His comments come after Medeama finished the first round of the 2025/26 GPL season at the top of the table, going on an impressive 13-game unbeaten run to underline their title credentials.
Medeama last lifted the league trophy in the 2022/23 season, ending a 47-year wait for a league title in the Western Region, and Dr Aubynne is confident the club can replicate that success under Tanko’s leadership.

“I think Tanko is a top-notch coach,” Aubynn told Citi Sports.
He has the experience, he has played at the highest level, played in Europe, represented the Black Stars, and he has been coaching for a long time, both internationally and locally. The results speak for themselves.
Medeama are currently the most in-form side in the league and will be aiming to maintain their momentum as the second round of the season gets underway.

Matchday 18 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 9, 2026, marking the start of the second half of the campaign. Medeama’s next fixture is a home clash against Young Apostles FC on Sunday, January 11, with kick-off set for 3:00pm.
With confidence high at Tarkwa, all eyes will be on Ibrahim Tanko and his side as they push for another historic title run.
