The German Embassy in Accra is set to host a special Football Day and match viewing event on March 30, 2026, as part of activities surrounding the international friendly between Germany national football team and Ghana national football team.

The event forms part of efforts to celebrate the strong football and cultural ties between the two nations, as excitement builds ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

It will bring together players, youth academies, football stakeholders, and fans, highlighting a relationship shaped not only by diplomacy but also by long-standing people-to-people connections.

What this means –

On the pitch, the growing link between both countries is evident, with Germany’s squad including players of Ghanaian descent, while Ghana’s team features individuals who have developed through German football systems.

This cross-cultural exchange continues to strengthen football development in both nations.

Key figures such as Anthony Baffoe, Samuel Kuffour, and Otto Addo have also played significant roles in building and sustaining the football relationship between Ghana and Germany over the years.

The event will also spotlight individuals contributing to football development, including Petra Landers, who continues to promote equal opportunities in sport through her “Faces of Football” initiative, and Gerald Asamoah, whose academy focuses on youth development.

Activities will begin with a Fan Park session from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, featuring training sessions and engagement for young players, before climaxing with a live public viewing of the match from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Participating organisations include BVB International Academy Ghana, Gerald-Asamoah-Football-Academy, Faces of Football, Football in Your Life, and German International School Accra.

Beyond football, the initiative reflects shared values between both countries, including fair competition, respect, and the recognition of excellence across borders.
