Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, has revealed that Ghana spent approximately 1.26 million dollars on 2922 tickets for spectators at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars exited the tournament at the Round of 32 stage after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in Kansas City.

The Minister disclosed the figure when he appeared before Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports to brief the committee on Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and other related matters.

The Ministry says beneficiaries of the tickets include members of the Ghana Supporters Union, Ghana’s High Commission in Canada and the United States, Ghanaians in the diaspora, Ghana Students Association, official government delegation and selected officials of the Ghana Football Association.

Ghana played four matches at the World Cup, beginning with three group-stage fixtures against Panama, England and Croatia, before facing Colombia in the Round of 32.

Addressing questions on tickets procured for Ghanaian fans who travelled to support the Black Stars across the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Sports Minister provided a breakdown of the expenditure incurred across the four matches.

According to Mr. Adams, FIFA allowed participating Member Associations to add a 10 per cent markup to the sale of tickets.

He explained that the total expenditure was calculated based on the number of tickets procured for each of Ghana’s four matches at the tournament, with the applicable ticket prices and the 10 per cent markup taken into account.
