The Minority in Parliament claims that only 15 of the 102 people the National Sports Authority (NSA) submitted to the Canadian Embassy for 2026 World Cup visas as NSA personnel or affiliates have been verified as actual employees of the Authority.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, October 7, Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said the remaining 87 names could not be verified as NSA personnel after examining the Authority’s records.
According to the Minority, the Canadian Embassy asked the NSA to provide updated information on the applicants, including their employment status, roles and reasons for travelling to Canada.
The NSA subsequently submitted a list of 102 people on June 8. But the Minority says its checks found that only 15 were NSA employees.
It further claims that some of the remaining applicants were assigned positions that did not exist within the NSA’s organisational structure.
“Susan Agyeiwaa Kudom, whose visa was approved on June 5, 2026, was presented to the Canadian Embassy as a Procurement Officer of the NSA, although she was not a Procurement Officer of the Authority. Francis Amoako Owusu was also presented as a Procurement Officer, although our verification indicates that he did not hold that position. And then there is Linda Oduro Tenkorang. She is indeed a woman of God, but she is not an NSA staff member. Yet she was presented as a Chaplain.”
The Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee questioned who was responsible for the list.
“So who were the other 87? Why were they on an NSA list? Why were portfolios created for them? Who prepared those portfolios? Who approved them? Who paid for their processing?”
The Minority says the issue raises concerns because the information was submitted to a foreign diplomatic mission under the authority of a Ghanaian public institution.
It is demanding answers on who prepared, verified and authorised the list, and why people it says were not NSA employees were presented as personnel or affiliates.
The Minority is calling for an independent investigation using NSA records, diplomatic correspondence, payment records and other relevant documents.
