President of the Ghana Para Swimming Association, Farida Iddriss, has praised the historic qualification of para swimmer Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing it as a defining moment for Ghanaian sport.

In an official statement, Iddriss expressed gratitude to key stakeholders for their unwavering support in helping the athlete reach the global stage.

“I want to thank the President of NPC Ghana, Mr. Samson Deen, the NPC Board, the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Chef de Mission for Glasgow 2026, and the Para Swimming Board for their unwavering support for our swimmer to get to the world stage,” she stated.

She noted that Aheto’s qualification goes beyond personal achievement, highlighting its broader significance for the country.

“Promise Aheto’s qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games is not just a personal triumph, but a defining moment in Ghana’s sporting history,” she said.

As Ghana’s first-ever para swimming representative at the Commonwealth Games, Aheto’s milestone, according to Iddriss, represents a shift towards greater inclusivity and recognition of para sports.

“Promise carries the hopes of a nation ready to embrace inclusivity and celebrate excellence in all its forms. His achievement signals a new chapter—one where talent is nurtured, barriers are broken, and opportunities are expanded for every Ghanaian athlete,” she added.

Iddriss reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to the growth of para swimming in the country, emphasising the need to create more opportunities for athletes to excel.

“As President of the Ghana Para Swimming Association, we are committed to developing para swimming and providing a platform for athletes like Promise to thrive,” she noted.

She concluded by pledging the Association’s full support to Aheto as he prepares for the Games in Glasgow.

“As he prepares for Glasgow 2026, we stand firmly behind him. May his journey continue to inspire, and may he represent Ghana with pride, discipline, courage, and distinction on the global stage.”
