The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially withdrawn its recognition of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) and its Executive Council as the governing body for aquatic sports in Ghana, effective 7th January 2026.
The NSA has also informed World Aquatics (WA) of the decision.
The move comes after the GSA reportedly failed to submit audited accounts, comply with the requirements of its own constitution, and provide satisfactory responses to concerns raised by the NSA.
As a result, the GSA and its Executive Council are no longer authorized to oversee national competitions, manage selections for international events, or conduct any aquatic sports activities within or outside Ghana.
Members of the Executive Council are also barred from representing the country at any aquatics-related functions, both nationally and internationally.

The NSA clarified that this action does not amount to a ban on swimming in Ghana.
Activities by swimming clubs, trainings, and competitions not directly organized by the GSA are expected to continue.
The Authority emphasized its commitment to promoting, organizing, and supporting the development of aquatic sports, while enforcing accountability, transparency, fairness, and good governance.
“The withdrawal of recognition is aimed at resetting aquatic sports for the benefit of all stakeholders, particularly our athletes and the good people of Ghana,” the NSA stated.
With this action, the NSA signals a new chapter for swimming and other aquatic sports in the country, ensuring that governance and management align with global standards and the best interests of athletes.
