Manchester United’s Harry Maguire has declared himself one of the best defenders in the world, even at 33 years old.
The bold statement came following his contract extension with Manchester United, reported by the BBC. Maguire’s previous deal was set to expire in June, but the new agreement keeps him at the club for another season.
In the interview, the English defender reflected on the challenges he has faced since his high-profile move from Leicester City to Manchester United, and on his performances during the 2025–2026 season, which have kept Michael Carrick’s squad on track for UEFA Champions League qualification.

“I wouldn’t change where I’ve been and what I’ve been through. It’s definitely made me stronger and got me to where I am today” he said.

“I still believe, even at my age, I’m arguably one of the best defenders in the world in both boxes. I don’t think that’s in question really; that I can be really effective later on in games, whether you’re holding on to a lead or trying to chase a game.”
