Football legend Michael Essien has singled out Mohammed Kudus as Ghana’s star player, urging that he be protected. Essien made the remarks in an interview with FIFA as Kudus and the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This year’s tournament will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with Ghana drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Kudus is currently sidelined with a serious hamstring injury that has kept him out for three months, but he is expected to play a key role for the Black Stars. Essien called on the team and fans to give Kudus support, confidence, and care as he readies for the global stage.
“If I start talking about him [Kudus], we won’t finish!. I think he has showcased himself to the football world” he said.

“He’s one of the biggest talents and for Ghana, he’s our star. We have to protect him and give him all the love and confidence he needs” Essien said.

In his first season at Tottenham, Kudus has six assists and three goals in 26 games in all competitions.
