Black head coach Carlos Queiroz has made his intentions clear,he is not starting from scratch, but building on the work of his predecessor Otto Addo.

Speaking after his unveiling, Queiroz acknowledged Addo’s historic contribution, insisting the foundation already laid must be respected and improved upon.

Otto Addo etched his name into Ghanaian football history by becoming the first coach to guide the Black Stars to two separate FIFA World Cup qualifications for 2022 and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Under his leadership, Ghana also went unbeaten in the 2026 qualifiers, topping Group I with 25 points; a campaign that has now set the platform for Queiroz.

And the Portuguese coach was quick to recognize that.

“We must improve the legacy of the previous coach, Otto Addo. I thank him very much for qualifying Ghana for the World Cup; that is our goal.”

Rather than overhaul the squad blindly, Queiroz stressed that his approach will be rooted in analysis, continuity, and smart evolution.

“We are studying and analyzing everything related to the past of the team in order to improve.”

Honest assessment before big decisions

Queiroz also revealed that a brutally honest evaluation of the squad is already underway, with no room for sentiment.

“We are making an honest assessment of where we stand—the value of the players, the value of the team.”

According to him, understanding the team’s true level is critical before making any major calls.

“Right players, right decisions”

Selection, he insists, will define Ghana’s World Cup journey.

“There is a difference between a good decision and a bad decision in football… we must bring the right players to build the right team.”

With limited time before the tournament, every call; from squad selection to tactics will carry massive weight.
