AS Roma have officially confirmed the departure of Claudio Ranieri, bringing an abrupt end to his latest chapter with the club following reported internal disagreements.

In a brief but pointed statement, Roma expressed gratitude for Ranieri’s contributions during what they described as a “very challenging time,” acknowledging his role in stabilising the team during a turbulent period.

However, the club made it equally clear that their focus has now shifted firmly toward the future.

“As we look ahead, our direction is clear,” the statement read. “The club is strong, with solid leadership and a defined vision. AS Roma will always come first.”

Fallout with Gasperini

Ranieri’s exit comes in the wake of a reported public fallout with newly appointed head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Sources indicate that disagreements over recruitment strategy and overall club management created tension behind the scenes, ultimately leading to Ranieri stepping away from his advisory role.

The situation marks a sharp turn for a figure who had only recently returned to the club in a different capacity after managing the team during the 2024–25 season.

A short- lived return

Ranieri’s second spell at Roma has proven brief but eventful.

After initially announcing his retirement from club management in 2024 following his stint with Cagliari, the veteran tactician reversed his decision to help his boyhood club through a crisis.

He later transitioned into a senior advisory position, a role that was expected to provide continuity and experience within the club’s structure.

Roma have wasted no time in signalling full support for Gasperini, underlining a unified vision moving forward.

The club emphasised confidence in the current leadership setup, with a clear mandate to rebuild, improve, and deliver results consistent with Roma’s historical ambitions.

By publicly backing Gasperini, Roma appear intent on avoiding any ambiguity over authority within the club hierarchy ; a key factor in modern football structures.

End of an era like presence

Ranieri leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his time at Roma.

Widely respected across Europe, he remains best known for leading Leicester City to an improbable Premier League title in the 2015–16 season; one of the greatest underdog stories in football history

At 74, questions will now turn to whether Ranieri’s exit signals a definitive end to his involvement in top-level football or merely another pause in a career defined by comebacks.

For Roma, though, the message is unmistakable: the Gasperini era has begun, and there is no looking back.
