Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey’s Wolfsburg side has been officially relegated from the German Bundesliga after losing out in a playoff tie to Paderborn.
Over two legs, Wolfsburg lost 2-1 to Paderborn with the first leg ending goalless. The second leg had a similar result as the tie ended 1-1 at the end of regulation before Lauri Curda’s goal in the 99th minute during extra time gave Paderborn the win.
Black Stars defender Adjetey was an unused substitute in the second leg just as he was in the first leg. The former Basel player joined Wolfsburg in January this year on a four year deal but endured a torrid time in Germany where he made just four league appearances in the Bundesliga.
His last appearance in a Black Stars shirt didn’t go well either as he performed poorly in friendly games against Austria and Germany.
However, the 22 year old was named in Carlos Queiroz’s 28 man squad to prepare for the 2026 World Cup where Ghana will compete at the group stage with England, Croatia and Panama.

The squad will be trimmed down to 26 for the official announcement on June 1 as stated by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku.

Adjetey was one of nine defenders picked for the Black Stars pre-World Cup squad that had Baba Rahman and Abdul Mumin included. Scroll down to view the full list of invited players.
