FC Barcelona sporting director Deco believes the club’s recent domestic dominance is only the start of a new era after the Catalan giants secured successive La Liga titles under Hansi Flick.
Barcelona wrapped up the Spanish league crown earlier this month after defeating Real Madrid CF, clinching the title with three matches remaining to successfully retain the championship.
The club’s latest triumph has been driven largely by a new generation of academy graduates emerging from La Masia, including Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí and Fermín López, who have become central figures in Flick’s project.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Deco described the current squad as the foundation of something much bigger.
“It is true that we won two La Ligas but these players want to win more, they believe that they can win more,” Deco said.
“That’s why it’s important because if the players believe they can achieve more important things, you see they still want to do something important.”

The former Barcelona midfielder also stressed that the current cycle represents the start of a potentially historic period for the club.
“I believe that this team for me is the beginning of the era, the beginning of the history of this team because they are so young and still want to win something important,” he added.
Barcelona’s strong league campaign included an impressive 11-match winning streak that helped them pull away from their rivals in the title race. However, the club’s ambitions in Europe ended in disappointment after elimination from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite that setback, Deco praised the squad-building work carried out under Flick, suggesting the club no longer needs a major overhaul in the transfer market.
According to Deco, the current balance within the team means Barcelona will not need to “go to the market for four or five players,” highlighting the confidence inside the club regarding the long-term potential of the squad.
