Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has admitted that the team is not fully accustomed to the intensity of training sessions introduced by newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, as preparations continue ahead of the friendly against Wales and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A total of 28 players are currently training in Cardiff ahead of the match scheduled for June 2. The squad will later be reduced to 26 in line with FIFA requirements.
The team has been stepping up preparations under Queiroz as he fine-tunes his squad ahead of the tournament.
Queiroz was appointed in April to replace Otto Addo, and will oversee Ghana’s fifth trip to the World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L with England, Panama, and Croatia.
Speaking in an interview via the Ghana Football Association, the AJ Auxerre shared that the players were adapting to the former Real Madrid head coach’s training style.
“He-Carlos Queiroz-comes with a new form of training and everything; something that we are not used to and I think we are adapting.”

“The training session like I said, is very intensive; we are not really used to this but then we are going to the World Cup so that’s what we need as well” Gideon Mensah said.
