Former World Number One Serena Williams will compete in the women’s singles at Wimbledon 2026 after receiving the final wild card from the All England Club.

The decision marks Williams’ return to the singles draw at the grass-court Grand Slam for the first time since 2022.

The 44-year-old had already been awarded a wild card for the women’s doubles event, where she will partner her sister, Venus Williams. Her inclusion in the singles field adds one of the sport’s most recognisable names to the tournament, which begins on June 29.

Williams recently returned to competitive tennis, playing doubles events at Queen’s Club and in Berlin as part of her Wimbledon preparations.

One of the most successful players in tennis history, Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era. She is also a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion, having lifted the trophy in 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2016.

Alongside Venus, she has won 14 Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, including six at Wimbledon.

Williams last played in the Wimbledon singles tournament in 2022, when she exited in the first round. Her return nearly four years after stepping away from regular competition is expected to be one of the major talking points of this year’s championships.
