Spain head coach Luis De La Fuente has backed winger Lamine Yamal to get back to his elite form as the 2026 FIFA World Cup draws to a close.
He said this as Spain prepares to play France on Tuesday, July 14 at 19:00 GMT in the semifinals of this year’s World Cup.
The Spanish team has been brilliant defensively after conceding just once in six games at the competition but FC Barcelona player Yamal’s form has been a major subject of discussion.
Yamal recovered from a hamstring injury just before the start of the World Cup and has scored just once in teh tournament though he scooped up the Man of the Award in Spain’s 2-1 win over Belgium in the quarterfinals.
“I’ve told him there is no need to worry – let him enjoy himself.”

“I’m sure Lamine’s great World Cup day is still to come. I hope it’s…in the final, if we can get there” De La Fuente said in support of Lamine Yamal who turned 19 years old on Monday, July 13.
