Ghanaian swimmer Abeku Jackson kept Team Ghana’s hopes alive at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after securing qualification in the men’s 50m backstroke, while Unilez Takyi’s campaign came to an end after she missed out on progression in her event.
Jackson continued his impressive form by clocking *26.48 seconds, setting a new Ghana national record and doing enough to qualify as the second reserve for the next stage of the competition after finishing seventh in his heat.
The performance capped another strong outing for the experienced swimmer, who has once again underlined his status as one of Ghana’s leading talents in the pool.
Takyi, however, was unable to advance despite a determined display. The young Ghanaian narrowly missed out on qualification, bringing her individual campaign in Glasgow to a close after finishing 7th with 27:13 despite making an entry into the competition 26:66 seconds
The contrasting results leave Jackson carrying Ghana’s swimming hopes as Team Ghana continues its campaign at the Commonwealth Games.
