Ghanaian para-athlete Zinabu Issah will receive GH¢31,002 after winning Ghana’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Issah claimed the silver medal in the Women’s Shot Put F57 event, earning the country’s opening podium finish at the Games.

The cash reward forms part of the Special Target Podium Medal Bonus announced by National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana President Samson Deen, who is also President of the African Paralympic Committee.

Under the incentive scheme, Ghanaian para-athletes who win medals in Glasgow will receive:

  • Gold: £3,000
  • Silver: £2,000
  • Bronze: £1,000

Following her silver-medal performance, Issah will receive the £2,000 bonus equivalent to approximately GH¢31,002 during a special presentation ceremony in Glasgow.

The bonus initiative is a personal programme introduced by Deen to reward excellence, recognise athletes’ dedication and motivate Ghana’s para-athletes to achieve podium success.

“Our athletes have worked tirelessly to represent Ghana with pride,” Deen said.

“This bonus is our way of recognising their sacrifice, determination and excellence. We want every athlete to know that their achievements are valued, and we remain committed to supporting them in their pursuit of success.”

He also congratulated Issah on becoming Ghana’s first medallist at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing her achievement as a source of national pride and an inspiration to young athletes and persons with disabilities across Ghana and Africa.
