Ghana’s Joseph Paul Amoah fell short of the podium in the men’s 200 metres final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, crossing the line seventh in 20.50 seconds.
The Team Ghana captain had booked his place in the final with a season’s best run of 20.24 seconds in the semi-finals, raising hopes of adding to the bronze medal he won at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking after the race, Amoah admitted he was disappointed with the outcome and believed he was capable of a stronger performance.
“I feel very disappointed. I think I should have done better,” he said.
Despite being pleased with his lane draw, Amoah said the cold conditions made the race challenging, although he acknowledged his rivals performed better on the day.
“I had a good lane. The conditions were not the best, but sometimes we train in conditions like this. The other guys were better today,” he added.
Amoah was Ghana’s only representative in the final after James Dadzie and Mustapha Bokpin were both eliminated in the semi-finals, bringing the country’s men’s 200 metres campaign to a close.
