Ghana’s Frema Agyei is one win away from a Commonwealth Games medal after defeating Zambia’s Sylvia Nawila in the women’s 57kg repechage at Glasgow 2026.
Agyei delivered a disciplined performance to overcome Nawila and book her place in the bronze medal contest, keeping Ghana’s medal hopes alive in the judo competition.
She will now take on England’s Lele Nairne, who dropped into the bronze medal bout after falling in the semi-finals. A victory would see Agyei add another medal to Ghana’s tally at the Games.
Under judo’s repechage format, athletes who lose to finalists are given a second chance to fight for bronze, with two bronze medals awarded in each weight category.
Agyei’s run has been another bright moment for Team Ghana. She will now look to finish her campaign on the podium when she steps onto the mat for the bronze medal match later on Friday, July 31, 2026.
