Novak Djokovic suffered a shock first round exit at the 2026 US Open with the Serb suffering a first round elimination at a grand slam since 2006 when he lost at the 2006 Australian Open.
The 24 time Grand Slam Champion lost a thriller to Mariano Navone 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 2-6,1-6 in New York in the opening round that also had Venus Williams also exit.
39 year old Djokovic struggled with back and shoulder issues during the game that was played on a humid day in the Big Apple.
Speaking after the loss, Djokovic commended Navone for his performance but admitted he couldn’t deliver his trademark rallies to score the win.
“It was obvious that it was an awful feeling on the court for me.”

“It’s something that I’ve been carrying, unfortunately, pretty much every match this year. Vomiting, throwing up, a serious issue there.”

“Then my whole body starts to collapse, basically cramping and pain.Yeah, the back just gave up in the end, and shoulder. I couldn’t close it out” Djokovic said.
