Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has stated that he will appeal the decision by football’s world governing body, FIFA, to suspend him for multiple games.
He said this in an interview with reporters in the wake of Lionel Messi’s retirement from international football.
The iconic player shared on instagram that Argentina’s 1-0 loss to Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup was his last appearance for the national team.
While sharing that he was yet to decide on the future of his international career partly due to Messi’s retirement, Paredes added that he planned to appeal his suspension FIFA handed to him.
The Boca Juniors player was given a 10 game suspension by FIFA for his involvement in multiple physical confrontations with Spain players including Gavi and Eric Garcia following Argentina’s loss in the World Cup Final.
“All that’s left is to appeal, see if we can get the punishment reduced, and that’s it” Paredes said while describing the punishment as “excessive”.
