Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has been appointed as head coach of the Black Stars for the second time following the expiration of his original contract and receiving a new contract.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed this on Wednesday, September 2 with Queiroz set to continue playing his role as head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team.

After getting named as Black Stars head coach with six weeks to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Queiroz guided Ghana beyond the group stage for the first time at the World Cup since the 2010 edition.

Ghana crashed out of the World Cup at the round of 32 stage after losing 1-0 to Colombia; his four month long contract expired after the World Cup.

After his reappointment, a section of the statement the former Real Madrid head coach posted on social media read,

It is with immense pride and honour that I confirm my continuation as Head Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana.

Serving Ghana is far more than coaching a football team. It is a privilege, a responsibility and a mission to honour one of Africa’s greatest football nations and its incredible and passionate football People.

I am proud of what our players, staff and Federation achieved together under challenging circumstances at the 2026 World Cup final competition. Their courage, discipline and commitment restored belief, competitiveness and the Pride of a Nation.

Now, a new chapter begins.

The Africa Cup of Nations is much more than our next destination — it is the golden gateway to building the Black Stars that will shine and proudly compete at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Our ambition is clear: improve every day, unite the nation, make Ghana stronger and fight for every victory with passion, humility and pride.
