Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe remains confident of winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or after being nominated for the prestigious award.
The 27-year-old is among 30 nominees for this year’s award, alongside reigning winner Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappe is a leading contender, with Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also among the favourites.
The French forward finished as the top scorer in La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the 2026 FIFA World Cup last season.
Despite failing to win a major team title, Mbappe believes his individual performances give him a strong chance of claiming the award, either this year or in the near future.
“I believe I can win it this year. It’s one of my goals, and a short-term one at that.”
“People say I didn’t win a trophy (for club or country), but it’s an individual award. I’ve never seen a Ballon d’Or winner elected unanimously.”
“My idea of the Ballon d’Or comes from the Messi and Ronaldo era – you don’t give it to ordinary players, you give it to players who are different. I think I did things that were different this year, so I believe I can win it” Mbappe said.
