Jonas Adjetey and Brandon Thomas-Asante are among the notable absentees from Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man Black Stars squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Queiroz has recalled Mohammed Kudus to the national team for the first time since October, while several players who missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including Jan Gyamerah, Nathaniel Adjei, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahim Sulemana and Ibrahim Osman, have also returned.
Adjetey, who plays for VfL Wolfsburg, misses the squad after featuring in Ghana’s World Cup campaign. The young defender was part of Queiroz’s final World Cup selection and was also involved in the team’s preparations before the tournament.
Thomas-Asante has also been left out despite being included in Ghana’s World Cup squad, where he was handed the number 10 shirt.
The Coventry City forward’s omission has generated discussion among Ghana supporters, particularly following his involvement with the Black Stars during Queiroz’s previous mandate.
Ghana’s latest squad also excludes Thomas Partey, while Elisha Owusu is another notable omission.
Queiroz’s squad will begin a new phase with the Black Stars facing Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, alongside a friendly against Morocco during the extended international window.
The latest selections underline the Portuguese coach’s willingness to make changes as he begins his renewed mandate with Ghana following his reappointment earlier this month. The Ghana Football Association confirmed that Queiroz’s new tenure would begin with the September international window.
