The Ministry for Sports and Recreation says it will refer comments by Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee on Sports, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, over the World Cup visa scandal to the appropriate authorities.
The Ministry’s special aide, Wonder Mandel, made the announcement during a media engagement on Friday, October 9, in response to allegations of the Ministry’s involvement in the controversy.
The scandal has also led to the suspension of National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
During the engagement, Mandel presented a file relating to Assafuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, and alleged that the document had been tampered with.
“His own document that he is holding is showing 90 (individuals). In his press conference, he said we expanded it to 92…some places, 98.”

“He said the four people that were refused at the (US) Embassy are in this list. If you go through the list, those four people were not in this list.”

“It will also be presented to the appropriate investigative committees and then the C.I.D (Criminal Investigation Division). All those will be handled by the C.I.D and the Ministry will communicate appropriately going forward because that’s a public record and for a member of parliament to tamper with that and throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians, we must leave this to chance” Mandel said.
