Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has expressed concern over the limited representation of Ghana-based players in the Black Queens, Ghana’s senior women’s national team.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Adams highlighted the issue while discussing the need for greater local involvement in Ghana’s national teams.
His comments followed remarks on the Black Stars, where he said the Sports Ministry recommended to the committee responsible for searching for a new Black Stars head coach to spend more time in Ghana rather than abroad if the successful candidate is a foreign coach. The minister’s concerns reflect a wider discussion about the representation of locally based players in the national teams.
In the Black Stars’ most recent outing, Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was the only Ghana Premier League player in the squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia, which Ghana lost 4-2.

“The same thing is even impacting our senior female national teams now. You hardly will find local players in the teams which is not good.”

“The earlier we correct that one too the better before tomorrow we get to the same problem that we have arrived to when it comes to the senior male national team” Kofi Adams said.

The Black Queens recently beat Mauritius 10-0 on aggregate in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.
