Citi Sports can confirm that Spintex Knights, Ghana’s representatives in the Basketball Africa League (BAL), are stranded in Libya and unable to return home due to an outstanding debt of $33,000.
The Accra Basketball League champions recently qualified for the BAL Elite 16 after winning all three games in Group B of the Division West preliminary stage, securing a place in the knockout phase for the second consecutive year.
However, the team cannot fly back to Ghana until the debt is settled. Spintex Knights co-founder Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi confirmed the situation, saying the club needs GH¢350,000 (approximately $30,234.57) to pay for flight tickets and a further $3,000 to cover visa-on-arrival charges.
He added that the club has faced serious financial challenges while participating in the African League over the past three years.

Spintex Knights are scheduled to compete in the Elite 16 stage in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from November 10 to 15, 2026.

The club has appealed for financial support to clear the outstanding debt. Contributions can be made through ascent.spintexknights.com.
