GBA suspends Patrick Allotey for 6 months after fan assault

The Ghana Boxing Authority has suspended Ghanaian boxer Patrick Allotey for 6 months for misconduct after he was seen in a video punching a Kotoko fan.

The hearing was put together by the authority after the video of Allotey, who is the current WBO Africa Super welterweight champion, assaulting the fan went viral.

The decision was the outcome of a disciplinary hearing held by the GBA on Wednesday and the GBA issued a statement to that effect.

The statement was signed by the GBA President, Peter Zweenes.

The said incident took place at the Accra Sports Stadium on January 27 during the clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. In the video, Allotey was seen subjecting the Kotoko fan, identified as Michael Siaw, to vicious punches after a slight misunderstanding.

Days later, Allotey issued an apology to Siaw for what happened but the GBA decided to hold a hearing as Allotey had breached the ethics of the sport which go against a professional boxer fighting in public.

Allotey was also charged by the Police for his conduct after Siaw reported the incident at the Ministries Police Station.

Allotey’s management, Caboc Promotions, is very likely to file an appeal.
