Ghanaian sprinter, Benjamin Azamati, says the experience at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has given him the belief that he is not too far off from the echelons of the sport.
Azamati competed in the 100m heats alongside two-time Olympic silver medalist Yohan Blake before helping Ghana’s 4x100m relay team set a new National Record (38.08) at the games.
But despite not qualifying to the semi finals of his individual event, the former University of Ghana student believes, with a little push, he can reach the level of his compatriots from Jamaica and the USA.
“I’ve learned a lot at these games and the difference between us and the professionals is not much,” Azamati told Citi Sports.
“Sometimes during training, we observe them and all that and you can see that all though they are experienced, the difference isn’t that huge.
“I believe that with a few touches, we can reach their level,” he said.
