Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has presented an amount of Ghs 50,000 to Hasaacas Ladies for their efforts at the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League Zone B qualifying tournament in Abidjan where the team emerged winners.

The Ghana Women’s Premier League and Women’s FA Cup Champions beat Nigeria’s Rivers Angels FC 3-1 in the final to win the trophy, exacting sweet revenge following a group stage defeat to the Nigerians early in the competition.

By their triumph, Hasaacas Ladies will become one of 8 teams from the continent to participate in the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League tournament to be staged in Egypt in November this year.

Presenting the check at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia said government is committed to the development of women’s football in the country.

“As a government, we are really committed to supporting our women in sports to realize their potential, both on and off the pitch,” Dr. Bawumia said when the team called on him at the Jubilee House.

“I spoke to the President and in recognition of this major honor you have done the country, I am on his behalf giving you 50,000 Ghana cedis.

“You have written your names in the history books by becoming the first team to win this competition and now we look forward to you replicating this performance in the next tournament in Egypt.
