Linz share photo of smiling Raphael Dwamena hours after he collapsed on pitch

Austrian club, Austrian club, FC Blau Weiss Linz have shared the first picture of Ghanaian striker, Raphael Dwamena since he collapsed during their game on Wednesday night.

Linz’s cup game against Hartberg was abandoned after Dwamena passed out on the pitch and was rushed to the hospital.

“His defibrillator struck and the doctors were able to stabilize him quickly,” Linz manager Stefan Reiter told the media after the incident.

Dwamena’s condition had Ghanaians concerned but a new picture shared by the club on Thursday would have eased those worries.

The forward can be seen in a hospital bed sporting a smile and with his thumb raised.

Linz’s sporting director, Tino Wawra, said Dwamena was in good spirits when he paid him a visit.

According to him, the doctors believed he was never in “any real danger” due to the defibrillator in his chest, although they advised him to avoid any strenuous activities over the next few days.

He also confirmed that Dwamena could be discharged either today or tomorrow.

Dwamena’s story

After a rough period, Dwamena’s form looked to be back on the rise at Real Zaragoza.

Following a stunning pre-season campaign, and a good start to the season, it appeared that Dwamena had finally put a troubled past behind him and was heading back to his very best.

His season-long loan move to Zaragoza from Levante was seen as a make-or-break one after a disappointing season with his parent club where he struggled to find his best form, being relegated to 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring just one goal.

He had moved to Levante despite seemingly bound for Premier League club Brighton who were willing to shelve out £10 million for the striker.

However, the biggest disappointment of the career of this young forward saw the deal fall through after he failed a medical.

This was a huge blow for a striker who had been tipped for greatness in Europe, having earned rave reviews at FC Zurich, scoring 13 times and assisting 12 more in his final season for the Swiss club.

Dwamena had drawn blanks in Zaragoza’s first three games of the season against Tenerife, Ponferradina and Elche despite starting all three games.

He finally got his reward against Alcorcón, scoring his first goal of the season.

He managed one more goal in his next five games before his season was unceremoniously cut short by his heart condition.

The player’s heart condition, which had previously scuppered a move to the Premier League had apparently resurfaced.

He underwent surgery successfully in January 2020 to have an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator put in his heart before securing a move later that year to Danish club, Vejle Boldklub.

His heart condition resurfaced forcing him to be sidelined yet again prior to signing for FC Blau Weiss Linz.
