Former President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated Ghana’s sole representative at the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League, Hasaacas Ladies, after they reached the final of the competition on Monday.

A 2-1 victory over Moroccan giants, ASFAR, helped the Ghanaian side edge their opponents despite missing a penalty in the second half.

After the game, Mr Mahama’s social media pages posted congratulatory messages to the team, describing the win as “emphatic”.

“Sending a message of congratulations to the playing body and management of Hasaacas Ladies FC for their qualification to the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League. That was an emphatic win over ASFAR of Morocco,” he said.

While the scoreline might not have been emphatic, the performance definitely was from Hasaacas, particularly in the second half.

Goals from Doris Boaduwaa and Evelyn Badu, either side of an equaliser Najat Badri, sent Hasaacas Ladies into the final where they’ll face South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Perpetual Agyekum saw her penalty, given after a VAR check, hit the post before the rebound was cleared off her foot before she could tuck it home.

The Ghanaian side remain unbeaten at the tournament and will be massive favourites to claim the crown on Friday.
