2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) host Algeria, has booked its place in the semifinals of the tournament eligible to players competing in national leagues on the African continent.

Algeria beat Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers to become the first nation to make it to the semifinals.

The North African nation plays the winner of the Ghana-Niger tie that takes place on Saturday, January 28 at 19:00 GMT.

Black Galaxies lost 0-1 to Niger at the 2011 CHAN and Ghana is aiming to make its third appearance in the CHAN final.

Striker Aimen Mahious converted a penalty kick in added on time after getting fouled by Ivorian defender Aziz Siahone in the penalty box.

The game was fairly balanced as both nations missed good chances in the face of playing the better part of the contest with 10 men apiece.
