Ex-Asante Kotoko Administrative Manager warns newly-appointed IMC to eschew complacency

Former Administrative Manager and Head of Legal Affairs for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Samuel Sarfo Duku has expressed positivity at the appointment of the four-member Interim Management Committee.

The committee was put together by the club’s life patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to oversee its operations in the upcoming season.

Head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum and former Black Stars boss, James Akwesi Appiah are the two notable names on the committee, with the latter acting as the Technical Advisor for the club and the former returning to the club for a second stint.

Sarfo Duku, who spoke to Citi Sports in an exclusive interview, lauded the team assembled and believes they can achieve big things this season.

Yes, I see it as a very promising and productive IMC because of the blend of knowledge and good skill. Regarding the Administrative aspects, I am told [Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua] is a Chartered Accountant, and looking at the background of Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, Akwesi Appiah and Ogum, who are also on board as technical persons in the game of football, I think it is a promising team.

I wish them well, but they shouldn’t think they know everything, and not rely on other people for help, if the need arises.

Football is a very complicated industry, Kotoko is a big family with people from all walks of life with different opinions.

They should know how to handle the affairs of the club, so they get the support of all if they want to succeed. That is what they should aim at.

The members of the Interim Management Committee are as follows:

  1. Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua: He holds the position of Kontomponiaferehene and is a chartered accountant.
  2. James Kwesi Appiah: A former Black Stars coach with extensive experience in football management.
  3. Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum: Named as the new head coach, bringing his expertise to the team.
  4. Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi: Assigned as the administrative manager to manage the club’s administrative affairs.

The primary responsibility of the IMC is to ensure Asante Kotoko complies with all the statutory obligations of the Ghana Premier League and prepares a strong and competitive team for the upcoming season.

As the club goes through this period of transition, the IMC will provide guidance and support to ensure its smooth functioning.

With the expiration of the Dr. Kwame Kyei-led Board’s mandate earlier this month, Asante Kotoko is embracing change and is looking forward to a promising future under the leadership of the Interim Management Committee.
