Withdrawal of some countries won’t dent Ghana’s plan to host successful Para Games – Samson Deen

President of the African Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen has revealed to Citi Sports that some countries have withdrawn from participating in the upcoming 2023 African Para Games due to the unreadiness of some of the facilities to host the games.

The Borteyman Sports Complex is currently still under construction, while the Legon Stadium is undergoing some renovation works ahead of the 2023 African Games, which will be hosted by Ghana next year.

With a few weeks to the commencement of the games in September, Samson Deen says the withdrawal of these countries will not dent Ghana’s prospects of hosting a successful event.

We had 48 nations initially endorsing to participate in the African Para Games. Out of the 48, only 22 will participate in the Games as of today.

The reason for their exclusion is because, as we speak today, Ghana cannot host a multi-sports international event. However, we pray and hope that by December Ghana would be able to boast of having the needed facilities to host an international multi-sport events.

Currently we do have a stadium that can take care of athletics and other sports and stage an international event.
