Medeama Sporting Club head coach, Augustine Evans Adotey, says he will punish striker Jonathan Sowah if there is a need to do so.
He said this in a post-game presser after Medeama lost 3-0 to Young Africans SC in Tanzania in the CAF Champions League group stage. Sowah got red carded in the 90th minute.
The loss means Medeama occupy the bottom spot in Group D with four points from four games ahead of games against Egypt’s Al-Ahly and Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.
Sowah had a poor showing against Young Africans as he missed a penalty kick in the 56th minute that would have tied the game at 1-1.
The Medeama forward recently got named in the 55 man Black Stars provisional squad for the 2023 AFCON but delivered a poor challenge that got him yellow carded for the second time and sent off.
Addressing the issue, coach Adotey said, “I saw a second bookable offense that attracted Sowah’s expulsion so if maybe there was something wrong in terms of discipline, we can talk about it. I prompted him after the first questionable offense.”
“So I have to go back and maybe work on Sowah’s attitude if there is a need to punish him, I will do that.”
Sowah is one of five players from Medeama named in the 55 man provisional squad and will miss Medeama’s crucial tie against Al-Ahly on February 23, 2024.
